USAA NAMED OFFICIAL MILITARY APPRECIATION SPONSOR FOR TRICENTENNIAL COMMEMORATION
USAA donates $500,000 to honor San Antonio community throughout 2018
SAN ANTONIO, TX (November 2, 2017) The Tricentennial Commission announced today that USAA will serve as the official military appreciation sponsor for the 300th anniversary commemoration. Home to a consistent military presence for nearly 300 years, Military City, USA and USAA will celebrate our San Antonio community, and honor our active and retired service members throughout 2018 as part of the Tricentennial.
“San Antonio continues to benefit from USAA’s values and investment in our communities,” said San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg. “An exemplary corporate partner, USAA will be integral to the Tricentennial celebrations throughout 2018, helping to commemorate our milestone and the fundamental role the military has played in the development of our city and county.”
“USAA has proudly served military members and their families since 1922,” said Stuart Parker, CEO of USAA. “We look forward to paying tribute to the city’s 300-year legacy and honoring our veterans, actively serving members and their families,” he added.
“Honoring our heritage and those who have come before us is what this anniversary is all about. USAA stands for these very same values. Their commitment to our legacy and our future is greatly appreciated and I look forward to 2018,” stated Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff.
USAA’s investment of $500,000 in the Tricentennial will ensure that San Antonio and Bexar County’s military legacy is incorporated into all aspects of the commemoration, including the New Year’s Eve kickoff, Commemorative Week and educational and Serve 300 community services initiatives.
“The Tricentennial Commission commends USAA for its unwavering commitment to our military community, whose contributions have been instrumental to the development of our community,” said Robert Thrailkill, Chairman of the Board of the Tricentennial Commission. “We look forward to working with USAA as we commemorate our community and the military throughout 2018.”
The region’s military heritage will be showcased during Commemorative Week and throughout the Tricentennial year. Military Day activities during Commemorative Week will showcase active duty military, as well as the past and current missions of Joint Base San Antonio (JBSA) – Fort Sam Houston, Lackland AFB, Randolph AFB and Camp Bullis.
