Thirty Poems for the Tricentennial, A Poetic Legacy

November 15, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Free

The Thirty Poems for the Tricentennial, A Poetic Legacy Exhibit uses poetry to recognize the historic city anniversary and milestones during and before the founding of our city. The exhibit will evoke a sense of pride and passion for our city and to promote the literary and visual arts. The Department of Arts & Culture and Gemini Ink solicited a “Call for Poems” requesting residents to submit poems based on 1 of 5 categories of San Antonio history, including Pre-Columbian, Spanish, Mexico, Texas as a State 1836-1947, and 1847-2017.

Selected poems will be interpreted by local visual and graphic artists into 2D works of art that blend with the poetic text. The artworks will be fabricated using cut vinyl, creating a colorful and expressive exhibition that creates a multi-sensory atmosphere of literary artworks for visitors to experience through seeing, reading, and hearing. Additional installations will be installed at selected public facilities, including libraries, and community centers throughout San Antonio, providing an opportunity for additional programming and exposure.
