300 MILES INITIATIVE TO GET THE COMMUNITY MOVING IN THE TRICENTENNIAL YEAR
Baptist Health System & Tenet Healthcare Foundation donate $100,000 to support 300 Miles

SAN ANTONIO, TX (October 13, 2017) The Tricentennial Commission announces its partnership with Baptist Health System, Tenet Healthcare Foundation, and the YMCA of Greater San Antonio to present 300 Miles. Generously sponsored by Baptist, 300 Miles challenges and encourages the community to celebrate San Antonio’s 300th anniversary through fitness. Participants will have seven months to complete 300 miles of walking, running and/or biking.

This challenge kicks off at the City Manager’s 5K Run on October 22, 2017, and it ends at YMCA’s annual Síclovía event on May 6, 2018. Baptist Health System donated $100,000 to the Tricentennial for the 300 Miles program, which will enhance the commemorative year by igniting the community to participate in local 5ks, join running groups and take family walks, for example.

“At Baptist Health System, we understand firsthand the long-term importance of leading a healthy lifestyle, which is why we are proud to support the Tricentennial 300 Miles program, which will challenge our community to walk, run or bike 300 miles over the next seven months,” said Kristen Lemus, RN, Chief Nursing Officer for Baptist Health System. “We’re looking forward to a terrific celebration of our city’s magnificent 300-year history. At Baptist, we are humbled to have been a part of this storied history for the last century and are looking forward to the next.”

“Partners like the YMCA of Greater San Antonio and Baptist Health System will ensure that the Tricentennial makes an impact on our community that goes far beyond what we do in 2018,” said Edward Benavides, CEO of the Tricentennial Commission. “These fitness activities will leave a legacy of happier, healthier lives for years to come.”

YMCA of San Antonio will track participant progress through ActivTrax, a wellness platform used by local YMCAs. Registration is free and open to the public. To register, visit an ActivTrax kiosk at any participating YMCA location (listed below). Onsite registration can also be completed at the City Manager’s 5k event, the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon and other YMCA events. Participants can track miles using the ActivTrax website and or mobile app. Prizes will be awarded to those who meet benchmark miles and finisher medals will be awarded to those that complete the 300 Miles challenge.
